Each month, this group of competitors launches from different parts of the bay and beyond with targeted/eligible fish changing each time. For the novice and seasoned anglers young and old. You'll find how quickly you make friends and learn new areas! The new 2021 season begins Tuesday, March 9th with entry registration and continues until April 2022!
From the less developed south shore of Tampa Bay to urban east Tampa to hidden freshwater gems, we explore it all!
The lower tier is filled with folks that have not competed since the start of the year but Don is back from an injury for the January 15th tournament so I expect him to rise quickly! (Remember, entering a tournament automatically earns you 10 points.)
These are the different level badges (minus the snook badge that is being worked on for the moment.) that each contestant has to complete during the year for a chance to compete at the top level in the Final. Only the redfish, trout, and snook will be available as collectible stickers as of right now. Find out what it takes to complete each level in the coming days here on this page.
After the FF 2021 FINAL is over, winners will be announced at our final meeting. A 1st place winner can only win the prize that is in their earned level. For instance, if someone who is in the sheepshead level comes in 1st at the Final, they win the sunglasses. If someone in the Redfish level wins second place because they were beat out by that contestant in the sheepshead level they would still win their redfish level prize. Ties at the Final have to be broken by a special challenge at the last meeting.
If everyone is qualified to fish the Final in the Redfish level then prizes will be handed out from 1st place to 6th.
The finalist entry cost is $20 at prior Joto's meeting or $25 on the day of the contest.
Fish has to be lying flat with nose to 0 and other end clearly visible for correct measurement. I have to make a judgement (I do my best) on clean measurements so take your time with the pic. Also, be sure your stick's measuring increments are easy for me to see. I would suggest using a marker to fill in faded numbers.
I can't make an exact measurement when fish does not start at 0. This will really come into play later on when precise measurements will have to count. Remember, take your time with qualifying pics.
I try to be as fair and precise as I can with everyone's pics.. but it is sometimes not an easy job so bear with me as we have the whole season in front of us.
